Meet Mawson’s Cousin, Sir Peregrine Flaxton-Pauncefoot

Fellow Baffled Ones, Meet my esteemed cousin, Sir Peregrine Flaxton-Pauncefoot  (“Do call me Perry, old chaps”).

These days Sir Peregrine, umm, Perry,  resides in Queensland, Australia, lolling among cushions, accepting cuddles, pondering about dapper bow ties, perusing literature and sampling certain particular types of grape juice.

Cousin Perry reads Mawson Bear's book

Sir Peregrine Flaxton-Pauncefoot reads It’s A Bright World

When Perry first arrived in this country, though, he had a distressing time. He was plonked down in one place after another until he actually ended up in a Seconds Shop. Yes! The fate dreaded by all teddy bears fear happened to him- he had been Marked Down!!

Well of course our guardians rescued him right away. They sent him off to learn gentle-bear-ing from a wise gentleman and Perry was at last Appreciated.

Here he is enjoying my very own Opus! He felt so pleased with the ending that he fell asleep. Napping is of course the privilege of gentle-bears everywhere.

It’s A Bright World To Feel Lost In, by Mawson, is a book for children of all ages written by Mawson Bear, who is otherwise known as Mark O’Dwyer.

A bear’s world is bright and shiny, and filled with infinite possibility, but sometimes waiting for that special someone to share the world with can be hard. Bears know that their someone is out there and on the way, and they can feel those hugs even before the awaited one is in sight. Bears love unreservedly and don’t seek to change their loved ones. And then they do the hardest thing of all, which is to watch those loved ones grow up and go out to explore their own expanding worlds, leaving their bears behind. But they do come back…usually, and share those adventures. And then, there’s the art of being oneself, of penning the perfect poem to celebrate me instead of us, which certain bears can do so well. And always the chance of being discovered once again.

Mawson Bear’s heartwarming and poignant book for children of all ages, It’s A Bright World To Feel Lost In, will captivate anyone who’s shared a secret with their teddy bear or felt the comforting warmth of that furry presence in the bed on long dark nights. Mawson’s story is lyrical and compelling, and the illustrations which accompany the text are brilliant. Each image is cunningly composed and photographed to showcase the artist Bear in the best possible light and reveal both his personality and depth of emotion.

It’s A Bright World To Feel Lost In, by Mawson (available here) is most highly recommended. Five stars. This review has been copied from the Readers Favourite website.

It’s A Bright World To Feel Lost In … is the first book in a series by Mawson Bear.  In these, Mawson sits atop his cushion and ponders about baffling things. Friends approach him about their own dilemmas. They seek instant answers that will make everything all right.

Mawson does his best. But after he ponders deeply, most things remain for him just as baffling as they were before. For the many frazzled readers who feel, secretly, much the same, he offers the comfort, however, that the world is a bright place to be

A Whimsical Gift Book for Frazzled Grownups

It’s A Bright World To Feel Lost In, by Mawson,

is a whimsical gift book for grownups feeling just a little weary about, well, Things and Stuff.

It features teddy bears because these creatures all too often meet the fate of being lost. They can then only wait and hope to be found again.

“(This book) could be shared with children and their own bears to help them feel safe and loved. But it is more a book for adults. Substitute the word bear for person and you have a book that provides solace in loss, friendship in loneliness”. Linda’s Book Bag, Reviews.

Mawson, a bear veteran of being left all alone, guides less experienced friends through the bewildering world. Before them looms the large question that baffles not only lost bears: can you go on being you when you don’t know who to be you for?

Mawson struggles to find the right words to tell about feelings.
The words he ends up with are few, sometimes muddled, but always as true as he can make them.

“Like the aroma of freshly baked bread or the sound of your child laughing, Mawson’s simple (but never simplistic) book hits its mark in a way that you will intuitively understand but will not be able to put into words.”   Dan Djurdevic, author of the remarkable Mirror Image of Sound.

Review of Its A Bright World, by Elizabeth Foster, author of Esme’s Wish

“Mawson Bear brings back fond memories of those childhood days when Teddy was an indispensable source of comfort.

There are lots of warm fuzzies to look forward to in this heartwarming story, as Mawson Bear explores how to be the best bear he can for his owner. He worries when his special ‘Some One’ disappears and looks up the ‘McBearies Big Book of Words’ to help himself put words to his sorrow.

The story is full of lovely lines like “You can hear all those things they don’t know how to say” and “That squeezy bit in the middle of a hug? That’s home.” All kinds of teddy bears feature in the photos throughout the story. A Sweet addition to any Bear Collection”.

Today I review a book that is a little different to my normal fare. Sent to me all the way from Australia, although available to buy in the UK, It’s A Bright World To Feel Lost In is a 50 page picture book suitable for anyone who sometimes feels confused and lonely in our beautiful world.

Narrated by a sleuth of teddy bears, led by the fluffy author, Mawson, it ponders how one’s importance to a special Some One can change over time. It accepts the pain of loss, makes suggestions about how to cope, and offers hope for future happiness.

The opening premise is that everyone wants to be loved and to have their love appreciated. There is still so much love on offer in our big, bright world.

The problem can be finding that special Some One when the world is so big. We can be primed and…

Fellow Baffled Ones, Earlier, I introduced you to my esteemed cousin and sampler of very particular kinds of  grape-juice, Sir Peregrine Flaxton-Pauncefoot.

You would never guess that a gentle-bear like our Perry once suffered the indignity of being Marked Down in a Seconds Shop. (“Mawson, dear chap, you promised not to mention that.”)

But life is grand these days, and Sir Perry has gathered around him a jolly bunch of book-loving fellow bears.  Also, like us cousins they like dapper ties.

More and more bears and stuffies are having a quiet read (as quietly as anyone can imagine) of my little book for fellow bears and those who love them.  Because as everyone knows, Bears read books. And read them best with hugs.

Friends, Bears, Baffled Ones, lend me your paws

Dear fellow Baffled Ones, Bomund reminds me that telling all the people in the world about my books of ponders isn’t going to be easy for a bear.  Not for one bear. We bears need help to do this sort of thing.

All the baffled bunch arrive to lend their paws. They have grand ideas about what to do.
