Scotland the Brave was the first bear to arrive in Mawson’s House after Mawson did. You can read about him here. Scotty once bravely navigated The Guardian around North Island in New Zealand but that was long ago. You can see from this pic that Scotty was often rather too brave.
Scotty heard that the Guardians were going to visit Scotland (and England and Wales and the Isle of Man) . They would need a navigator and bodyguard. He volunteered for the job. He started by finding out where on earth Scotland is. He consulted his trusty globe. Now Scotty lives in Perth, Australia. Scotland, which also has a city in it called Perth, is about as far away from Australia’s Perth as a bear can get. Scotty had to go around to the other side of his globe to even point to it. That’s how far it is.
Scotty pondered how to get from Perth in Australia to Scotland all the way across the globe. There were a lot of oceans and continents in the way. Goggles the Aviator bear offered to fly over the top of the oceans and continents on his Magnificent Flying Machine. Scotty agreed that the flying machine is indeed magnificent. But felt it was perhaps .. a bit dated.
BeeBear also offered to be Scotty’s pilot to Scotland. Now Scotland the Brave is very brave (as you can tell from his name) but he did feel nervous about his friend’s kind offer. BeeBear’s machine also did not look quite up to the job.
Instead of rattling along in the cold air on a little plane, Scotty had in mind having a sleep most of the way and perhaps snacking and enjoying a comfortable chair. So in the end he chose a Really Big Plane. (It was a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner).
The Really Big Plane would fly through the darkness for 18 hours and in the morning it would land outside London in England.
In the next episode, you can see Scotland’s plan for what to do and how to get about once he got to London. He could see from the map that he still had to get from there to Scotland.
