Welcome back to the adventures of Scotland the Brave who journeyed all the way from Perth in Australia to London in England. He wandered through Hyde park, visited Buckingham Palace to visit the King, who wasn’t home, and glided down the Thames on a boat and saw Westminster and the Tower of London. But most wonderful of all was his visit to the Natural History Museum. He was no sooner through the doors of the Museum when he almost ran away.

There was a Stegosaurus on the loose right there! You can tell from his name that Scotland the Brave is very brave but to suddenly meet a Stegosaurus like that was a new experience and he did feel just a few qualms. Then Scotty realised the beast simply trying to flee the asteroid closing in behind it. Run, Steggy, run!

Scotty and the Guardians moved on into the Great Hall called Hinze Hall. This is the hall where David Attenborough himself faced down dinosaurs (on TV). The hall is huge and decorated with incredible pillars and arches and huge ribbed girders holding up the soaring roof.

All kinds of details decorate the arches. It’s absolutely crowded with people, many of them school children. There were Italian kids and Spanish kids and Irish kids and even English kids. And a blue whale is swimming through the hall above the crowds.

Well, not ALL of the blue whale, just its bones. Even so, Scotty felt that nothing was better than having a bony blue whale sweep above him inside this incredible building. He was very happy.

There were so many fossils and displays and models of creatures in the Museum that Scotty didn’t know where to look next. I

But in the Hinze Hall, there was much more! There was a North American Mastodon Skelton. It was enormous. It wasn’t woolly any more because it was only bones, but it was most impressive.

There were amazing displays of dinosaurs, little ones, huge ones, scary ones. Look, a Triceratops! Some displays threw scary shadows too, as if they weren’t scary enough already. Scotty loved it all.

t is the sort of Museum you need to visit many times to fully take in. Just look at this incredible creature in the picture below, a Pilosaur. If you look closely you will see too a picture of Mary Anning, a pioneer of palaeontology. Without Miss Anning, there would likely be no “Jurassic Period”.

Even when Scotty paused at the T-Rex Cafe there were dinosaurs. These rather small T-Rexes were quarrelling. Scotty tried to referee, but they were intent only on each other.

If you too want to bravely go forth to see great displays of dinosaurs, then the Natural History Museum of London is certainly the place to be.
In the next exciting episode, Scotty sets off on his bus tour to Scotland- but the bus goes the wrong way! Where does he end up? Will he ever reach Scotland? Don’t miss that one.
BOOKS with Scotland in them (our Scotty, that is)
Scotty is the star of a very special book called When A Brave Bear Fights Cancer: A Get Well Soon Gift by Carola Schmidt. In the book, Scotty a little bear who gets a bad sickness called cancer.
