We are sharing Behind-The-Photo peeks about When A Brave Bear Fights Cancer; A Get Well Soon Gift by Carola Schmidt and illustrated by Mark O’Dwyer (who is also Mawson’s Guardian). This is what it looks like.
In our last exciting episode the bears got confused, muddled and baffled about a delicate medical instrument. Read the episode first. But they did find a blue broom. A broom, you wonder. Yes, a broom. And how can can that help them make the photo? Well, read on.
Scotty (in tartan): We can take the pole off the blue part of the broom. See. Now we have a pole. It’s long and shiny and everything. It looks very medical.
Little Teddy (blue jumper): I like the blue part of the broom. It’s the same blue as my jumper. We could go sliding down the bed in it. Let’s all play.
Old Yellow: We haven’t finished making a delicate medical instrument, Little Teddy.
Paddy arrives (dressing gown): Hello, fellow bears. I’m getting changed into my dressing gown because in the book I’m going to be a patient. What are you all doing with long shiny handle from a blue broom. Are we going to play with it?
Scotty (proudly): We’re making a delicate medical instrument. Come and help, Paddy.
Old Yellow (importantly): Right bears. We need to get our shiny pole that was once a handle on a blue broom into position. On the count of three we all lift it up.
Little Teddy: But I don’t know how to count.
Old Yellow. Never mind, Little Teddy. You just hold the end steady. And now, one, two, three, lift!
Oscar: Hello everyone. I’ve found a chair. It’s just right for us bears. You can tell its just right because it has pictures of bears on it. Try it out.
Scotty: Look, Oscar, we have found a shiny pole and stood it up so we can hang things on it.
Oscar: That’s grand. And here is the drip bag and some bits and the long drip line and more bits. Oh dear. It all looks completely baffling. These instructions are baffling too. If only we had an expert to help us. Someone who wears a white coat and glasses who knows stuff.
Specs (white coast and glasses who knows stuff): That’s Me. Here I am. My name is Specs. I am your in-house drip line disentangler and fixer upper. I know stuff.
Scotty: Thank goodness we have a drip line disentangler and fixer upper in the house!
The Guardian Speaks: Will Specs, who knows stuff, get it all sorted out? Will the bears ever manage to turn the blue broom into a delicate muddy or medical instrument? What will the final picture look like? Don’t miss the next exciting episode of (deep voice) Behind The Photo.
