Noble Reader, Dare Ye Battle the Dread Foe?

Mawson Bear’s Guardian writes: Your mission, Noble Reader, should you choose to accept it, is to challenge the Dark Lord that holds all Writers (and this one Writer-Bear) in its thrall.

Only the trusty keyboard of the Doughty Reader (that’s you, of course) can quell this Fearful Thing.

Mawson and friends take up their trusty keyboard and prepare to be valiant

What, you wonder, could this Horror be? It’s dread name, gentle reader, is Oblivion. (At the sound of the word, Mawson hides under his pile of cushions. The Guardian shivers but steels himself and types on.) Oblivion bringeth it’s doom thus: the writer whose splendid work gaineth reviews unto the magic number of Lots and Lots is thereby raised by the Algorithm into the happy circle of Being Noticed. Others, no matter how great be their talents (nor how handsome be the writer-bear) may well fall toward the Void. ‘Tis dreadful yet true.

What can be done? Ah, well this is where you are needed by the writers of the books you like. This is your quest.

Sir Scotland the Brave smites the keyboard
Sir Scotland The Brave, in shiny armour, Smiteth the Keyboard Most Valiantly

As The Reader, you can wield your awesome power thus:
Quest ye deep within the Caverns of Amazon. Gallop down the Galleries of GoodReads . Brave the by-ways of Barnes and Noble.   Baulk not at the doors of Bookshop Org. Dare to enter Dymocks and Booktopia (Australia). Wander into Walmart (USA) and WH Smith ( UK).

Seek ye there the *Star Ratings*.

Ride at them straight and true.  Smite them twice. Smite thrice. Smite fourfold.  And Yea! if such be thy will, smite yet again! (Smiting once only, though, is right out.)

And, if your arm waxeth mighty that day, rest not, but swing down again the blows of your keyboard upon the space marked Your Review. There, type a line of your thoughts. Or two lines. Or lots.

From even a few words the dread Foe recoils. An Oblivion Slayer on Amazon simply wrote, “Great book, well written and extremely engaging. Bonus, it is all about bears!!!! Marvellous !!!!!!!” And that was enough. That day the Foe retreated snuffling and snarling into its den. But every day bringeth forth a new challenge. This is your call to be valiant. Can you wield your mighty keyboard (or your pinkies on your phone) and send Oblivion reeling away once again?

And do you count more bold Readers among your boon companions? Share on this missive so that they too may do these valiant deeds!  All writers (and this one writer-bear) will never disavow your selfless mission!
